The grip connects you to the club. Secure and comfortable is a better starting point than tight and tense.

Bring the hands together

Place the handle mainly through the fingers, then let the hands work as a pair. An overlapping, interlocking, or ten-finger grip may suit different players. A coach can help you choose and check the clubface.

Use enough pressure

Hold firmly enough to control the club without squeezing so hard that your forearms feel locked. The right feeling changes with hand size, strength, and conditions. A grip should not cause pain.

Try a small rehearsal

In a clear practice area, take your grip and make a few short, slow swings. Notice whether the club feels secure and the wrists can move. Keep one grip cue at a time rather than rebuilding everything mid-round.
