Good pace mostly happens between shots. You can move efficiently and still take care over the ball.

Get ready early

Choose a club and target while others play, as long as you remain safe and do not distract them. Keep practice swings brief. In stroke play, safe, responsible ready golf is encouraged.

Watch your group

Use the course’s pace guidance and keep contact with the group ahead. If you fall behind, reduce delays and ask the marshal for help. A busy course with no gap ahead is different from a group losing its place.

Handle a difficult hole

Agree on a learning format before a friendly round. Picking up can help a beginner keep moving, but it does not create a regular stroke-play score. Competition formats and handicap posting have their own procedures.

Finish efficiently

Leave bags toward the next tee, clear the green when done, and record scores safely away from it. Keep food stops and phone use brief.
