An accidental deflection normally brings no penalty and the ball is usually played where it stops.
Plain-language guide · Rule 11.1. Use the current official text and your round’s Local Rules for a ruling.
What to know
There are exceptions, including certain events after a stroke from the green. In stroke play, a putted ball hitting another ball that was already on the green can mean a two-stroke penalty.
On the course
Pause before deciding to replay a deflected shot. Check Rule 11 for the location and what the ball struck.
